During the winter months, my kids love to make hot cocoa. Actually, they would probably drink it all year long. So, I created a healthier hot cocoa recipe that feel good serving them whenever they want a hot treat.

Tip: Keep Milk From Scorching

This recipe uses real liquid milk and is a stove top recipe. Sometimes people have trouble with milk scorching on the stove top but I have a tip for that.

First you need to ice your pan so the milk doesn’t scorch. Just let an ice cube melt in the bottom of your pan. Leave the water in when you add your milk and be careful not to scrape the bottom of the pan while your stirring.

I don’t know why icing the pan first keeps the milk from scorching, but it does. Just trust me on this one.

Heathy Hot Chocolate Recipe

4 cups milk
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla

Put milk into pan and heat over medium heat. When it is warmed up you can add honey, cocoa and vanilla. I like to use a whisk to mix it all up and give just a little froth.

You can add more or less honey, cocoa and vanilla depending on your liking. Some of my kids also liked hot vanilla milk where we just left out the cocoa.

Yield: 4 cups
